We talked about the odd proliferation of faux Harley Quinn covers in Deadpool Spanks Harley #1 and we have another example here, so let's first take a look at another actual Harley Quinn cover - that of (Vol. 2) #0 (January 2014). Note that this is not the cover that was used as the basis for the one we're going to see below because that one was a blank variant (just empty space); it's just a handy non-blank #0 cover - if that makes any sense. It doesn't seem remarkable in any way, and we've never understood how Harley, who was created as a character for The Joker to play off of, could carry her own book anyway. Perhaps she didn't.

The "#0" bit, by the way, goes back to Robert Crumb's Zap Comix and the dawn of the undergrounds in 1967. Crumb had found a publisher for what was to be Zap #1, but he disappeared - along with the original art. Crumb had wisely saved xerox copies, and while searching for a new publisher created the material for what he thought of as Zap #2. The new publisher printed up this material with "#1" on it, so the old #1 stuff was eventually published as "#0" to preserve chronology. Since then, the use of "#0" on a cover has been in our opinion a cheap marketing ploy which we associate with a creatively bankrupt endeavor. So are "variant" (multiple) covers - and this Harley #0 was both!

Now let's see the faux #0 that an unknown artist rendered far more interesting than the original by having Harley once again spanked by Deadpool.

Deadpool gives Harley Quinn a paddle-swat to remember on this mock cover of Harley Quinn #0. The artists are not Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. Characters are © Marvel Characters Inc. and DC Comics Inc. respectively. Posted by the Web-Ed on 08/09/2019.

We like this one better than the first Deadpool/Harley, for the OTK position is good, Harley's back is arched turning up her bottom more, and a good hard swat is given by Deadpool (a paddle this size is of course better used in one of the bending-over positions). We doubt that Harley's cry of "Yahtzee!!" was a reference to the old board game (although we suppose a paddling could be called a kind of "board game"); more likely is that Harley enjoyed the swat, having received many from The Joker over the years, and can't help feeling some affection for the man who gave it to her. The "white heat" we see drawn where the paddle makes contact suggests that's not all Harley will be feeling for a while. laughing face
